CHILDREN
In general, parents are invested in children’s success and go to great lengths to help them grow and thrive. Even under the best of conditions, children sometimes face challenges their parents are not prepared for. Children do not function in a vacuum. Children exist in the context of their family, school, community and peer group. When one of these environments is not working well, it can have a detrimental effect on other areas of the child’s life. Children don’t have the maturity to know what is causing them distress. They cannot verbally communicate what is bothering them with the insight that an adult can. Thus, parents see behaviors. Sometimes the child is acting out aggressively. Or won’t go to school. Or is refusing to follow directions at home. Tantruming, defiance and clinginess are some ways children communicate when something is not in balance.
